RIP Dave 'Baddy' Treloar

This morning Dave 'Baddy' Treloar suffered a fatal heart attack on the beautiful beach and right hand point at Angourie. Paramedics attended to him but he couldn't be revived. He was 68-years old.

Originally from Manly, Baddy moved to Angourie when he was twenty, carving out an ocean-based existence, shaping boards and living off the sea as a recreational and commercial fisherman.

Alby Falzon captured him shaping a board and running down the track to Angourie in Morning Of The Earth. That sequence, set to the song 'Simple Ben' by John J. Francis became the template for a simpler life, and over nearly half a century Baddy never wavered. In 1995 he told Australia's Surfing Life: "I just surf and fish. I don't try to do anything else."

RIP Baddy
